The start of the 2003-04 NBA season saw two big debuts for the Denver Nuggets. First, they introduced new uniforms featuring light blue, yellow and white. Second, they introduced their number three overall draft pick and the new face of the franchise, Carmelo Anthony. 'Melo entered the NBA Draft after one year at Syracuse University, where he led the school to their first ever NCAA title. In his rookie season he led the Nuggets to their first playoff appearance since 1994-95. He was a member of the first team All-Rookie squad, averaging 21.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. The Denver based side were founded in 1967 as the Rockets. When the American Basketball Association merged with the NBA in '76, Rockets was already in use by Houston a contest was held and "Nuggets" was chosen in honour of the original Denver basketball team in the 40's.
